About the conference

In 2025, we proudly present the first edition of the three-day Craniofacial Conference – a unique platform where surgeons and anaplastologists unite to focus on the latest advancements in craniofacial reconstruction. Location is the beautiful city Amsterdam. Our goal is to bridge the gap between disciplines, fostering collaborative, groundbreaking solutions for patients. By bringing together experts from these specialized fields, we create an environment that inspires, innovates, and drives progress within the sector.

Part 1: The Nose

For this inaugural edition, we’ve chosen a theme that resonates with professionals across the field: the nose. Nasal reconstruction and aesthetics are areas where both surgeons and anaplastologists play essential roles. This conference offers a wide range of presentations, workshops, and demonstrations led by renowned experts, focusing on the latest techniques and challenges in nasal reconstruction.

Scientific program

During the conference, we will address several important themes in craniofacial reconstruction. We have curated a diverse and in-depth program focused on the latest developments and techniques in the following main topics:

Reconstructive surgery: Innovations and techniques in complex reconstructions
Nasal reconstruction: Specific challenges and advancements in nasal reconstruction
Implants: New possibilities and applications in implant technology
Head and neck tumors: Multidisciplinary approach to diagnostics and reconstructive solutions

We proudly present our keynote speaker: Prof. dr. dr. P. Kessler, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Head and Neck Oncologist, Head of the Department of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, Maastricht University Medical Center, Netherlands.

Dr. Fisher is an associate professor of plastic surgery in the Johns Hopkins Department of Plastic Surgery. His areas of clinical expertise include burn surgery, burn reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, and reconstructive microsurgery. He serves as the Director of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Adult Burn Center.

We proudly present Dr. Matthias Ureel. His specialization: Head and neck reconstruction, 3D planning and simulations of the face, Orthognathic surgery (jaw surgery), Facial gender confirmation surgery, Maxillofacial traumatology, Dentoalveolar surgery, implantology, and autologous bone grafts (cleft lip and palate).

We proudly present Stefan Edmondson. He is a Consultant Clinical Scientist and head of Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Stefan has a specialist interest in Head and Neck Implant retained prosthetics.

We proudly present Dr. Paul-Stefan Mauz, Vice Chairman, Universtiy Hospital of Tuebingen, Department of ENT, H&N in Germany.

We are honored to welcome the renowned French anaplastologist Anne-Marie Riedinger to our stage, alongside esteemed surgeons Dr. Patrick Hémar and Dr. Thibault Dedieu. Their collaborative presentation promises to be one of the many highlights of the conference, showcasing innovative approaches and inspiring discussions that drive progress in our field.

Caro Verbeek (1980) is an art historian (phd), curator, author, maker and assistant professor (VU) known for her sensory approach to art, history and scholarship. Her book ‘on the nose’ (which appeared in Dutch as ‘een kleine cultuurgeschiedenis van de (grote) neus’ and as ‘Sul Naso’ in Italian is being translated to Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese and German. Her lecture explores the long and largely forgotten history of nasology, in which the shape and size of the nose were considered indicators of character and (a lack of) talent, as well as the evolution of beauty standards.

Dorothee Siekmann is a certified epithesist and owner of Epithetik-Freiburg. She is accredited by the German Federal Association of Epithesists (DBVE) and a qualified physician. As the head of the Institute for Craniofacial Epitheses, she combines medical expertise with specialized knowledge in craniofacial prosthetics.

We proudly present Prof. Dr. Thomas Maal. He is the first professor of 3D technology in healthcare. In 2006, he co-founded the 3D lab in Nijmegen together with Prof. Dr. S.J. Bergé.

Gillian is a board certified clinical anaplastologist and has a duel 40+ year career in medical illustration and anaplastology. As a consultant and Director of Artifacials, LLC her focus is speaking about the artistry of craniofacial prostheses from her experiences in the treatment planning and prosthetic restoration of adults and children with simple or complex facial and body deformities or conditions resulting from cancer, burns, trauma and congenital anomalies.

We proudly present Luciano Dib from Brazil. He is specialist in stomatology and oral and maxillofacial surgery, professor in the postgraduate programme at Unip and President of the Mais Identidade Institute.

We proudly present Maarten de Jong, anaplastologist at MUMC+.

We are honored to welcome the esteemed Dr. Nathalie Vosselman, dentist specialized in maxillofacial prosthetics, to our stage. She is the Head of the Center for Special Dental Care at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) in the Netherlands.

We are honored to welcome the renowned France doctor Thibault Dedieu who takes the stage with the French anaplastologist Anne-Marie Riedinger, alongside esteemed surgeon Dr. Patrick Hémar.

We are proud to present: Tjitske Bannink, Technical Physician and PhD Student at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam. She will be speaking about a new treatment method for the nose. She has won the Prof. Dr. G.P. Vooijs Award for her thesis Implementation of 3D technologies in the anaplastology workflow.

We are honored to welcome the renowned German anaplastologist Yvonne Motzkus to our stage from Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

We proudly present Juan Garcia, experienced Associate Professor with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Skilled in Clinical Research, Health Communication, Medical Devices, 3D Sculpting, Scanning and Printing, and Teaching. Strong education professional with a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Medical and Biological Illustration from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

We proudly present Mr Satyesh Parmar, he is an Oral and Maxillofacial /Head and Neck/Reconstructive Surgeon at the University Hospital of Birmingham. He is one of the directors of the European Head and Neck Course.

Dr Kelleners-Smeets is a general dermatologist who specialises in treating patients with skin cancer.

Program overview

Thursday – Pre-conference workshops
On the Thursday preceding the conference, participants may attend optional pre-conference workshops. Topics are partly suggested by participants and partly proposed by our speakers. The workshops will be offered in various formats, including plenary sessions, workshops, and meet-the-expert sessions, specifically designed for surgeons and anaplastologists to encourage interaction and in-depth exploration.

Friday and Saturday – Lectures and networking activities
On Friday and Saturday, scientific lectures delve into current topics in craniofacial reconstruction, with a special focus on the nose.

Afternoon: 13:30 – 16:30

Friday evening: Dinner Pensant – An exclusive dinner for inspiration and dialogue.
Saturday evening: Closing Event – Celebrating the first edition of the conference.

Travel to Amsterdam

By Plane

If you go by plane the nearest airport is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Taxi’s, and busses depart from outside of the airport. Train station is located right underneath Schiphol Plaza (the airport’s main public entrance hall).
